Adding flavor to my shakes

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I love the strawberry flavor of the Carnation Instant Breakfast!!! I like to add that to my Protein powder (vanilla or unflavored) to make it taste more like a "real" strawberry milkshake.

However, I've only been able to find the CIB assorted packets that have 2 strawberry packets and a variety of others (I like all the others too except for dark chocolate)....anyway, my stores don't sell just a container of the strawberry flavor (only milk chocolate)....

SO my question is.....

Can I add Nestle Quik strawberry powder or Syrup to my vanilla or unflavored Protein to make it more tasty? My stores don't carry the SF Torani syrups in strawberry, otherwise I'd just buy that. They don't even carry regular strawberry Torani syrup, but while I was perusing that aisle last night, right near the Torani syrups were the chocolate milk mixes, hot cocoa, etc. and that's what got me thinking about adding the strawberry Nestle Quik when I want a strawberry flavor. My daugther wouldn't drink plain white milk when she was a little younger but would happily guzzle it when we added the "magic" syrup (strawberry nestle quik) to make it into "princess milk"....(whatever works to avoid a power struggle with a 2-year-old!)

I know the Nestle Quik has lots of sugar and probably calories, but I'm talking maybe using a teaspoon or so, just to perk up the flavor.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Nestle Quik has a reduced sugar version of strawberry and I have used that in my Protein Shakes. Can you find that in any stores near you? Also you can buy the SF Torani syrups online thru Amazon.com.< /p>

Thanks Vickyd.

Yes, I have the reduced sugar version....I just figured if I can use that without any ill effects, I wouldn't have to order the SF Syrup online.... :D trying to use what I already have before buying more stuff.

thanks!

I use sugar free pudding in the box.... Put a teaspoon or two in your shake , and WOW ! It blows up the flavor. Not Fattening either.

Shirley.

P.S. I also take 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, and add 1 1/2 tsp of sugar free Pistachio pudding to that. Mix well, and is that good.

Spoiltmom,

Thanks for the advice!!! Would you please send me the info on getting the flavor drops?? That sounds interesting and a lot easier to allow me to make shakes at work!!! Thanks!!

I flavor mine with sugar free hot chocolate mix, Hills Brothers sugar free Cappucino mix and Capella Flavor Drops. The Flavor Drops I order but they are cheaper than the Torani and DaVinci syrups, the shipping is also super cheap and they are small enough to throw in your purse with no problem.

54Shirley,

Thanks for that idea!! I bought some SF pudding mix last night so I will have to try that!! Do you have any other mix combinations that you like? So far I have vanilla, chocolate, and butterscotch.....I was going to try the butterscotch pudding mix in my vanilla Protein shake tomorrow morning.

And the cottage cheese, pistachio pudding mix....that's just eaten with a spoon or do you add that to your shake? I've never tried cottage cheese (it's texture looks funny to me!) but I've heard it's a healthy addition to our new lifestyle....I just bought some last night to try it but have to work up the nerve first!!! LOL

The Cottage Cheese is eaten in a desert dish, just sprinkle on the s.f. pudding, and stir well. Now the cottage cheese,,,, You really don't taste it, do to the flavor of the pudding.

You can pick your flavors, and do what you want to the cottage cheese. It is really good.

I'm thinking about adding it to yogurt. Will see.

Another good dish is the following.

Ingredients:

1 large container cottage cheese

8oz. cool whip

1 small pack of strawberry Jello (NO WATER)

1 can (DRAINED) crushed pineapple

Put Jello in a large mixing Bowel, add cool whip, and stir until well blended, blend it the cottage cheese, then add the drained crushed pineapple. Mix well, refrigerate overnight. This is Delicious.

You can use any flavor that goes good with pineapple, and cool whip light if you want.

54Shirley,

The cottage cheese idea actually sounds good!!! Might have to try that this week!!! Let me know if you try it with yogurt too!!

Your other recipe sounds yummy!!! Can I blend the cottage cheese first to make it smooth or should I just leave it clumpy?

Thanks again!

Egg white powder is something else that is good to add to your shakes for extra Protein and flavor. I use Jay Robb and it comes in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. He also has whey powder and it comes in Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, Pina Colada and Tropical Dreamsicle.

You could always try adding imitation strawberry extract to your shake as it has no significant nutritional value.

My addiction Protein Shake is 1% milk, 1 scoop EAS 100% whey Protein Vanilla flavor, 1 banana and a scoop of White Chocolate Peanut Butter! Mmmmm

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
