Do complications have anything to do with age?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I consider myself young (my teenager might differ) and I do have complications.Sometimes I think high bmi or bad luck....who knows....

I am now 64 and will have the band this Spring. Complications from an ulcer have slowed down my process of getting the band. I'm excited, although optimisticly cautious as to the results. I'm no spring chicken, but I would love to see my grandchildren grow up and get married. My father lived to be 100, so I'm hoping I inherited his genes, and I don't want to be the typical grandma. I want to be more secure in my well-being and a risk taker if nothing else. I'm not worried about the surgery, although somewhat concerned if I will be able to take my medications afterwards. All in all my surgeon doesn't think I'm too old, and I certainly don't feel too old, but I better not say much as I may be back here the first few days after complaining and moaning about everything :puke:

Age is just a number!!:D

I was 56 when i was banded. In 5 months, I have lost 56 pounds and I haven't had a fill. I wish I could have had this surgery when I was in my forties. I wasted all of those years being overweight.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
