Panic Disorder & Banding

Recommended Posts

Suffering from panic disorder, and dealing with the outcome of being banded scares me.im so scared that down the road,if i have complications.vomiting, etc.Its on my mind all the time.Does anyone else have panic disorder. The only way i was able to go through with the surgery, was xanax. If it was not for that, there was no way,i would have walked into the hospital for the procedure.

I had the same concern I was scheduled last year for the Lapband and cancelled my surgery, but I have done so much research and read so many blogs this past year that if you follow the Post-op diet example liquids then mushies and chew and eat SLOWLY then I think we will be just fine. I have 3 co-workers that had it done, 1out of 3 is losing weight and only had one nausea episode. She is losing weight looking great, the the other 2 are often in the bathroom vomiting after a meal and the weight loss have SLOWED down. But I see they are eating food that should be a NO, NO! So if I was you join as many Lapband fourms and google your questions and concerns the more knowledge you have the more comfortable you will feel.

Yes, and I still take Xanax every day for it. I was banded in 2007, had my ups and downs, and for me the panic is not worse and not better before or after. I am glad I had it done, but it isn't a cure all, I can chow down as much chocolate as ever, but it is great for Portion Control. I didn't suffer after the surgery, but I did as I was told, to the letter.

Hope you get it sorted out soon :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
