I was banded on May 26th and am now on liquid diet, day 3...I'm quite sure I'm ready to tackle someone for some actual food! This is just torture! I know I have to let my stomach heal and everything, but come on!!! broth, Jello, popsicle, Protein...broth, Jello, popsicle, protein...good grief! And I can't even get down much of the Protein. It's absolutely horrible and I haven't even gone to the shakes yet, this is the unflavored powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. It's so horrible in Crystal Lite, I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or the people that recommend it just have no taste buds, but YUCK!!!

I need some suggestions if anyone has any! I know I'm not getting enough protein and I'm woozy and have the worst hunger pains I have ever experienced in my life! Any help is appreciated!

I was banded the 26th also- spent one night in the hospital post op- I have no appetite and cannot drink more than a few sips at a time. Have not tried a shake yet but I will not be able to get much Protein during this liquid phase- I too have popsicles ( sugar free) crystal light and tea -some Jello but it's nasty - I did take a can of campbells chicken noodle Soup and drained off the juice and just had that - it was good - eery salty but good. Hang in there angelpie07 I have several friends with lap bands this past year and they say this is normal. Still have lots of gas - my shoulders hurt. I'll pray for you.

Go to Walmart/Target and buy ready-to-drink shakes, like Muscle Milk, Labrada, etc. They're much much much better tasting, trust me :) If there's a GNC/Vitamin Shoppe near by you can also buy Isopure that comes in the clear bottles; they come in fruity flavors and are again, much better tasting than an unflavored Protein powder.

Good luck!

You need to try some different brands of Protein Shakes to find some that you like...everyone has different tastes so you need to find something that works for you. In addition to the ones reverie mentioned, I have heard really good things about Syntax Nector (I haven't tried it yet but know several people who like this). Also, if you try Muscle Milk Light (which I like), don't get the chocolate...it tastes horrible and I dont know anyone who likes it ;)

This is just not what I expected at all. I'm totally exhausted and now I'm reading about all these problems people are having with the band fills, etc. I just have no idea why I did this to myself anymore. Maybe it's just the lack of food that I'm feeling this way, but it's totally defeating.

What exactly did you expect? Did your surgeon not tell you about the post-op diet pre-surgery? Either way, it does get better. It's common that you start to regret being banded when you're forced to eat nothing but liquids for a week+ It gets better, trust me. Once you get to soft foods and then progress back into normal foods you'll see it isn't so bad.

Complications do happen with the band as with any WLS, but I wholeheartedly believe that if you take care of your band, it'll take care of you. If you have a great doctor for aftercare then I wouldn't worry much. Focus on the positive. Yes it's crappy now but when the weight starts to come off the post-op diet really fades into nothing; you'll look back and say it was plenty worth it.

LOL- I really feel your pain! I was banded the 25th. This will only be for a week-then you can at least have creamy soups-so hang in there!! The unflavored Unjury is yucky in clear drinks, but if you add it to a carnation drink mix with skim milk and ice cubes and blend. I only add a half scoop of unjury to it to boost the Protein content. I did get a banana flvored icy today (hey if we can have sugar free pops why not an icy?) it was SO good! Like I said it's only a week-then a little more options are available. Remember to were JUST banded and your stomach absolutely needs time to heal-no solids!! You can do this! Keep busy too-read a good book, take a walk, etc. Hang in there!!

I felt exactly the same way a few days post op, I wonder if it's just a part of the process to feel that regret feeling. Now I am only three weeks out and I am happy I did it, I think the no food thing literally can drive you nuts mushies is a big improvement mentally I think, now I'm on soft foods and chew, chew, chewing, and it's even better. I'm feeling like myself again. You'll be okay. This too shall pass. (just slowly)

Angel, I'm sorry you're having a hard time. Just remember this won't last long compared to a lifetime. I have been hungry today also. I just did something that I don't know if I'm supposed to do but I added a teaspoon and a half to my GNC 60 Cookies and cream Protein with unflavored, unsweetened almond milk. It tasted so good and I was able to drink more of my Protein Drink. If any of you know about the Peanut Butter in the liquid phase please tell me. Angel we will get through this. You have done the right thing for your health.

I know how you feel...when you are hungry, tired, feeling weak and miserable you are ready to throw in the towel. I was there last night and this morning. I cried for a half hour straight. I feel so alone and was so mad at myself. I am doing my best to get through this following instructions, but I've moved on to Soup to help me through this phase. I am getting some of the recommended Protein Drinks tomorrow to try so I hope they will work. Hang in there and know that we are all in the same boat together.

Keep in mind that eating all kinds of yummy thing is how we got herein the first place. I am a 15 year recovering addict so I saw the post op period as my detox time. Time to learn to get into my body what it needed not eating for entertainment. Mentally I was much hungrier than I was physically. I didn't watch TV during this time because of all the food commercials. I also live alone so that helped. Of course detox from food was easier, no danger of dying and no DTs, but mentally it's hard. Take care of yourself. Exercise helps, mostly walking. I also took baths to distract myself. Get a massage, a pedicure, whatever to pamper yourself without food. Keep your eyes on the prize, think of your Protein intake as medicine. When mushies come beware of over eating. You have to learn all over how to eat. Your calorie intake is so restricted the food thar goes into your mouth shouldn't be junk. It doesn't have to taste bad though and you will find that your taste buds recalibrate if you cut out high salt, fried and sugar foods for a while. After weeks of drinking only Water diet drinks like crystal light are too sweet for me. It's a new start.

Can anyone give me some examples of what semi-liquids they are "eating"? I know the list is small, i'm just looking for ideas.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
