Hi All~

I am sch for 6-17 and I am wondering when can I expect to be up and about normally?

The following Friday is my sons class play/concert? There should be no issues with a week, right?

Thanks in advance for your replies~

I was up and about after about 5 days and back to work on day 8 so you should be good to go by then :)

You should be fine by then, though if you're still on painkillers you shouldn't drive.

You should be fine - driving might be an issue?

I had surgery on Wed, came home Thursday. Back to desk job Monday.

Driving on bad NY roads is not pleasant so was walking everywhere for the first 10 days.

My doc said I should be driving by day 2-3 and good to go back to work by day 5-7.

The first full day after surgery I don't think I left the Lazy Boy recliner, mostly because I really did need the down time. Day 2, I was climbing the walls. Day3, I was out and about running errands, etc.

It wasn't until day 5 the gas pains started. I was miserable. Could not get comfortable.

Only thing that helped was to get out and walk vigorously. My daughter who is a APRN told me it is a standing order to get abdominal post-op patients up walking ASAP.

Just had surgery yesterday and I am still stuck on my recliner. Feeling SO much better than yesterday but getting up to walk every hour or so. I am using heating pads to help with the pain over incision sites. I am hoping to be able to get to church tomorrow. Can't imagine driving before Mon.

I am not sure if the heating pads are good for incision sites (I think cold compresses might be better)-the heating pads is for gas pains. I am not a nurse so maybe one of the nurses on this site can give beter info-just be careful!

I'm a LVT and yeah we usually use cold compresses on incisions. Warm, usually only if there is an infection (helps get the drainage out)

:) 3-4 days for me to at least get rid of the aches associated with gas pains....by the end of the first week I felt pretty good. I took two weeks off just to ensure I healed and relaxed.

The heat helps my port site. That is the most painful. Getting better each day though.

Oh-if your son's play is a week away from your surgery date you should be fine-although some people do take longer to heal. A lot of us go back to work within a week so a play should be no problem (jus make sure you have a seat!)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
