Has anyone lost interest in food long after lap band surgery?

Recommended Posts

I had this complete lack of interest in food for about 6 weeks after I was banded and still have it briefly from time to time. It wasnt just that I wasnt hungry it was also that I didnt care at all between say broccoli (or anything crazy-healthy and low calorie) and ice cream or pizza.I believe it is because the band presses on the vagus nerve. I didnt want to eat but I could. So I just tried to plan healthy meals and I thought it was pretty great. Now, of course if you cant eat that's a totally different thing. But if you can, but just arent interested you just need to eat what you know to be right nutritionally.

This is also an interesting topic for me because I have no interest in food either. I eat but find no enjoyment in it any longer so I don't really care what I eat anymore. I can't eat a lot of fruits or veggies anymore and I love them too. I find that I can eat so little of the good foods that I stick with ground meats, chili, shepherds pie etc. I made really great turkey burgers on the fourth but could only eat 2 small bites and one bite of baked Beans. I can't do breads or rice or whole wheat Pasta either. I hate Protein Shakes even though I do have some great tasting recipes. For me it's about the toothsomeness (think that slight crispness of a perfectly grilled hamburger bun) and textures I think, so things get a little boring at times.

I have a late night schedule, so I tend to sleep late. Also due to stress I am not sleeping well and use a sleep aid. So seldom am I up and going before 11. Since the weekend I am now forcing myself to start with a Protein Shake instead of coffee. I try to eat something in about 2 hours, but it's usually another Protein Drink. dinner I am pushing with some meat and a veggie. I am trying hard to keep coffee at bay (loosing that one), it tends to fend off hunger for me. Also I use to much Creamer. I had lost 1.5 lbs on Mon. The Water is easy, I don't count cals because I don't want to. That's why I choose the band. I haven't found to many things that I can't eat, Pasta bread work OK. I just don't want it. The one meal I had been eating was not as portion controlled as it should be. Right now I find it harder to eat right now than I did in the early stages. This might just be a mind over matter thing so I'm giving it 2 weeks before I go see the doc.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
