I need some help! Only 2 1/2 Weeks Post Op and HUNGRY!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!! . I am so glad that I found a posting site I was unaware of this and now I feel like I can finally ask some questions without always calling and stalking my doctor and nutritionalist! So I had the lap band done on 5/4 and felt extreme hunger pains starting right away but I have been good all the way up until yesterday when I was at a birthday party, but I still feel I did decent. I had a small bowl of potato Soup and made sure to crunch up the potatoes very well before swallowing, but I was still hungry and this was at lunch time so I ordered something to take home for dinner for my son and I just in case I felt ill from eating lunch as well. I ordered some curry to take home, for much later, like I said as a backup. Well my son and I got home and had a nap (he is 5 and was grouchy!) and when I woke up I was not hungry so I went about things normally and took my Pepcid and another Vitamin and then when an hour passed he was hungry and I was also so I warmed up the curry for him and I. I had 1/2 a cup of curry. Okay I felt horrible!! I mean I could eat it just fine but when I read the posts that I was not suppose to eat anything yet I internalized and was like OMG!!! So then my question have I just completely messed up? Have I caused something wrong with my band? And I woke up this morning feeling famished and I mean like a please kill the pain!! So I have already had 3 Protein drinks and it is only 2:30! AHH! Oh yeah and another bummer I got on the scale and I gained 2 pounds from my eating excursion. SO bummed and feeling just like I cheated myself but really I was not givin the greatest advice for post op. (sorry for talking your head off I am just lost and confused, twisted and well not abused but HUNGRY!!!).

Thanks

you probably did no harm. Are you still on liquids or can you have mushies. I only had to be on liquids 3 days and then moved to mushies. The liquid and soft diets are so your stomach does not have to work so hard to pass the food through the band at first. This gives the band a chance to get seated in place and heal. I don't think it is a big deal but try to follow your clinics orders.

Good luck to you.

You probably have not damaged yourself. At day 12 I was still on full liquids (smooth Tomato, or squash soup). I was able to move to cottage or ricotta cheese on day 14. At the point you're at I would have a cup of smooth veggie Soup and an hour later the Protein Shake.< /p>

I was and still am suppse to be on the mushy diet. Thank you for the information very nice to know. And I have for the most part stayed right in light with doctors orders that is why I feel so bad about my slip.

Thank you

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
