Is The Pre Op Lap Band Diet The Same As On The 3-9 day Post Op menu

Recommended Posts

I have a list of what to drink for my pre op Lap Band liquid Diet but it didn't suggest a menu. The choices resemble the 3-9 day full liquid diet/menu items. I want to get this right. It is the weekend and don't know who to contact. I wasn't called back about an Angel yet.

Also, is it normal to have diahrea(don't know how to spell it.) I have tried 2 drinks of the Protein powder drinks for a few days to get use to it and I am having some incontinence trouble. I'm running to the bathroom a few times a day.

I start my 4 day pre op tomorrow May 15th. Surgery on the 19th.

Advice is really needed and welcomed.

Hugs,

Rose

Pre and post op instructions are different depending on your surgeon. My pre op was all liquid (only shakes, broth, Jello or popsicles) and my first 2 weeks post op was exactly the same. These sort of diets seem to cause either diarrhea or constipation...I had diarrhea. What I found was that since I am slightly lactose intolerant I can't tolerate the whey Protein Shakes. I switched to a lactose free shake (Isopure and Muscle Milk Light) mixed with soy milk and that helped a lot.

It sounds like you aren't tolerating the Protein drinks. Are you lactose intolerant? Many Protein powders are whey (milk) based.

You need to call your doctor's office Monday when they open and tell them about your difficulties so they can amend the pre-op diet for you. If you're having fecal (bowel) incontinence, I'd call now. The doctor should have someone taking call for them that can help you.

I don't know what you mean about an "Angel".

You jus need to stay on a "clear liquid diet" u really don't need that much Protein till after surgery. The main goal is to shrink your liver enough to eliminate complications and make things easier. So yeah chicken broth, Jello, apple sauce, Gatorade will do...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
