Daily calorie intake?

Recommended Posts

I setup a counter/diary on Live Strong

One thing that shocked me was when I used their calorie calculator it had me at 2800 per day for 1 1/2 lbs loss per week

I used sedentary as life style

My weight and height

From my reading here that sounded very high

I had to up it to 3.5 lbs a week to get to 1750

Why was this so different that the 1200-1600 I read about here?

Fit day has me at 3000 calories a day to maintain my weight. When I figure it out using the 1400 calories I eat in a day I should easly lose 3+ pounds a week. That doesn't happen. It can not take in to account your metabolism.

I got a body bugg so that I could acurately monitor my calorie output to compare to my intake and see what my daily deficit is. It has really helped me stay on track and it is very acurate! When you weigh in on the body bugg website it calculates your average daily calorie burn for the week based on your weight loss. I stick to a 1200 cal diet, I burn an average of 2600-3000 calories a day and I don't work out yet.

I usually eat between 800 and 1000 per day, but I have my online tracker set to 1200 calories a day so it's no biggie if I have more. So far it's worked for me, though I have heard plenty of people saying they don't lose unless they take in at least 1200 per day. I like tracking it so I can look and see if I need to tweak things.

It depends on your current weight and the current amount of calories that you are consuming to maintain that weight. For me, 1200 calories a day would amount to 1-1.5 pounds lost a week with a sedentary lifestyle, starting at a weight of 267 pounds. As you lose weight, you'll find that your caloric budget will lower considerably. You will not be consuming the same amount of calories after a year of steady and rapid weight-loss to maintain your current rate of loss. Either your weight-loss will slow or you will have to cut your calories further over time. Also, you're male. The average male consumes about 1800-2200 calories to maintain a healthy weight, on account of muscle mass and metabolic differences. Exercise will increase your caloric requirement. 1200 calories is also set by many nutritionists as the lowest a woman should go in order to avoid adverse health effects. Many people and doctors still follow a lower caloric regime. I consume about 1100 calories a day.

Finally, if you're finding that your caloric requirement to lose at the same rate as other dieters is considerably higher than other dieters, this does not indicate a slower metabolism. In fact, it points to the opposite.

My doctor told me pre-surgery that I have a limit of 1200 calories a day. I use My Fitness Pal on my phone to track my calories. He told me not to eat the extra calories I get from exercising. So far, I'm down 10 lbs since surgery listening to him with no fill yet. I also sometimes struggle eating the entire 1200 calories.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
