Some fever post op, day 3...

Recommended Posts

I was just banded on Friday, May 6. I have done well (I think) but starting last night, I got a fever of about 100 degrees... This morning it continues...Now, the highest it has been has been 100.4 and my post op instructions say not to call the office or worry unless it gets over 101. Is this normal? All my postop temps in the hospital and up until last night were normal... Anyone else experience this? No drainage from my cuts or anything. Still having some gas pains, despite milk of mag use and walking.

Did they send you home with a deep breathing apparatus? I had the same thing and the Dr told me to breathe deeply with it 10 times, at least once an hour. WHen you have surgery, your lungs are really open to pneumonia, and you have to open them way up to prevent it. My fever was gone in 12 hours once I started doing the breathing.

If you look at the lap band site, they say, if you got extreme stomac pains, Migraines or fever, you must contact a doctor immediately.

Maybe its nothing, but right after surgery like that, i wouldnt wait too long. Better be safe then sorry:) good luck

I had surgery 11 days ago and I had a slight fever for the next 5 days after surgery. It never got above 100.4. I called my Dr. a couple of times and he reassured me each time that it was normal and not to worry. He also said that anything above 101 was when I would need to call. My fever never got above 100.4 and it subsided after the 5th day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
