Great restriction without fill

Recommended Posts

Since being banded on March 24th, I've had great restriction - even though I have not had a fill yet and my band is empty. I eat 6 times a day... about 1/2 cup to 1 cup at a time. My body tells me I'm full and there's no mistaking that full feeling. I attribute most of this to having gastric plication surgery at the same time as lap band. Before my surgery I could eat like a bottomless pit. I hardly ever felt full and when I did I loved that full feeling. I ate to get stuffed, most of the time. Then would be eating again in less than an hour... just because the food was there.

Now I hit that full feeling and want to stop because I feel awful if I don't. Then I don't eat again for 3 hours. I'm scheduled for my first fill on May 9th. Not sure what to expect. I'm barely getting enough calories already... so if I start eating less... not sure how to get in enough calories each day.

My weight loss has been slow, I feel... but I'm done worrying about that. At least I'm losing and not gaining!

So if anybody is thinking about having the gastric plication with the lap band... I recommend it! Have had a good experience so far!

That's cool! I had to google it. I had never heard of it before.

My doctor at Duke told me about it when I went in for my first consult. I googled it, researched it and read as much as I could. Then decided "yes, I want that!" I don't know many others who have both... just a few. But I'm very pleased so far. :)

I just watched a video about plication here: http://gastricplication.org/2010/12/3d-surgery-diagram-video/

My question is, why do plication and the band? It seems very much like the sleeve.

supposed to help with long term weight loss. keeping it off. you always have a good amount of restriction with it. it's nickname is "the sleeve killer" because people are opting for this rather than the sleeve.

the idea is faster loss, more loss and a better chance of keeping the weight off way down the road. -- WE'LL SEE!!! ;)

It does sound better than the sleeve. Maybe they should try this instead of gastric bypass on those they say are too obese for the band.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
