Started my Pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

Started my pre-op diet on Wednesday, doing great so far but find it hard to finish all liquids required (4 protien drinks and 64 fld ozs of water) and boy do I enjoy my one meal a day. Trying to eat in small bites and chewing it well, sometimes I forget to chew it well, but.I still have 11 days to practice lol. I may have to mush or cut into really tiny bites.

My surgery isn't until May 11th and I am thinking of starting my liquid diet 2 weeks before (April 27th) instead of my required one week. I figured if people can do it for 2 weeks so can I. I want to get a jump start on my weight loss.

My pre-op diet is only liquids I don't want to all of a sudden cut my calories) so starting April 27th I might have all liquids but have a regular lunch and then starting May 4th stricktly liquids.

Doreen, you are soooo lucky. I don't have really one regular meal with my 2 week pre-op diet. i am liquids only, 2 cups of veggies, plus 30 calories worth of jell-0, broth, and/or popsicles.

however, i am finding it difficult to get all of my shakes in as well because they are actually very filing. i have tried to space them out and get plenty of Water in in between them, but because i have soooo much liquid, it has been keeping me awake at night (as i am literally peeing every 30-45 minutes)..so i have been trying to have all of my liquids finished by 8:30 so i can have a chance to get some of it out by the time i go to bed. that seems to have worked somewhat better last night as i only got up about 3 times.

anyway, i have one more shake to go, so i'm gonna go and force it down. i never thought that by being on a liquid diet i wouldn't really be hungry. i am just fighting the mental issue of wanting to bite into something, but i don't have any hunger at all really. i am both surprised and happy about that. only 11 more days of this...then it's 10 days of Clear Liquids post op. that just might kill me

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
