Most of the time I feel normal like there is nothing there, but there are times when I can feel the band. It's like something bumps up against a rib or something. I know it's not the port at those times.

I can feel the port but it doesn't bother me in the least. Tha actual band you cannot feel at all. It should not have any effect on you truck driving job. The only thing about driving that I found is that I don't seem to have a bag of chips or a loaf of italian bread in the passenger seat next to me anymore. ;)

The first week or two that I was banded I felt "something;" not sure if it was just the effects of surgery, or if I could feel the band inside of me. After that, the only thing I ever feel is the port.

not a dumb question, it was one of the first things i asked my dr when i met with him. after surgery, i could feel the band inside of me for the first 3 weeks and my dr said some people are able to sense that it's there (a definite minority though). it eventually went away. i can feel the port with my hand but cannot sense that there's anything inside of me there.

i don't think that driving all day would be a problem once you've healed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
