Anyone have any idea how long it take for Cigna to approve surgery? I have been thru the 6 month nutrution classes (last one next week), the cardiologist has cleared me, and the pysch consult. Only thing now is to wait for ok from insurance and then I can get a date. I'm very anxious!! I also need to give some notice at work for my time off.

My insurance had an exclusion for WLS, so I wasn't covered. I would begin calling them often and checking on it. I find that companies tend to "forget" things and misplace important documents. I would make sure that they have indeed received everything they should have and just keep checking to see if you get approved. Good luck!

Hi, I have Cigna also. So, are you approved? How long did the process take? From initial to actual schedule date of surgery?

Yes, I have Cigna, but my insurance had an exclusion for weight loss surgery, therefore I had to pay out of pocket.

I to have Cigna open access and just finished all my classes on 04/18/2011. The doctors office submitted the paperwork last thursday and I got a call this morning that I am approved.

Good Luck

That is awesome that you were approved so quickly!! They can't submit my paperwork until they get the final ok from my PCP. I have an appt with her on May 4th and I am to fax the letter right to the surgeon's office that afternoon. Hopefully I will be approved as quick, my surgery is scheduled for the 18th, and I start my pre-op diet on the 12th! Would certainly suck if I started the shakes and the approval didn't go thru!

I'm not sure when my paper work was submitted, but I was approved within 2 weeks of my last nutrition appt. It seemed so quick.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
