Week 3 and stopped losing

Recommended Posts

I am in my 3rd week after being banded. I lost 18 lbs the first 2 weeks and now nothing. I even gained 2 lbs. I am tracking my food. I am getting between 800 and 1000 calories a day. I am also getting between 60-80 grams of Protein. What is going on? Someone Help Me!

Hang in there.... your body is just readjusting itself to a new lifestyle. Keep following the plan and don't stress about the pounds. I have had many times I didn't lose weight over a period of a few weeks, but have lost inches along the way. Be patient.

The first 6 weeks are about healing. You should not be on the scale and shouldn't be half-worried about weight loss right now. While we do want to continue to lose, keep in mind that your body just underwent surgery, which is invasive and a complete shock to the body. It's going to need time to heal and to heal your body needs calories. Right now the last thing your body wants or should be doing is releasing fat.

The first 2 weeks after surgery you probably lost Water weight from the fluids given to you during surgery. My advice is to stay off the scale, focus on getting your Protein in, and focus on healing. I know it'll be hard as I struggled with the same thing but put the scale away for a little. Throughout your entire journey your weight will go up and down, some weeks it won't move at all. Weight loss is never linear nor constant.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
