Hmm...can somebody verify something for me?

The one thing I would say is that it is very important to follow the doctors food orders immediatly following surgery. It's dangerous to eat solids right after surgery. That would be Very bad for your stomach. Perhaps that's what she meant. post surgery I had 1 week Clear Liquids, 1 week full liquids, 1 week mushies (cottage cheese), 1 week mushies shredded chicken, then to solids.

"She" doesn't know what "she's" talking about. Sounds like "she" needs psych eval more than you.

I've had my band 1 1/2 yrs. Have eaten sugars & have overeaten. Only consequence of overeating is severe heart burn.

^^This^^

She's either ignorant or just lying...worrisome in either case.

When was your appointment, April1. Sounds like an April Fools joke to me! Your psych eval, sounds like she has confused lapband with gastric bypass. I, also, have sugar when I want it. I usually use a sweetener, but indulge in "real" sugar, too! Karen

wow, wasted money and time to go to that psych. , but if it's a hoop you must jump through check it off your list and move on to the next hoop.

This person needs to be reported to your surgeon though. If you got a referral from your surgeon's office that is. Unless it was a "test" of your band knowledge. To put misinformation like that out there borders on malpractice in my opinion.

It's conceivable that a person might cancel surgery based on these statements and not get the treatment for obesity that they deserve.

So had my psych eval today....it was good....they mentioned a couple of things that I never read anywhere or seen before so I'm seeing if somebody can verify it for me.

1-she said that with this surgery I can't have any sugars....EVER...is that true?

2-she also said that if I ever overeat ONCE I'll rip the band of my stomach....uhh, what?

just seeing what the truths of those 2 statements were

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
