Lump in throat

Recommended Posts

For the past few days I have been noticing that right after I take a sip of Water I get a lump in my throat. I notice it more in the evening. It passes fairly quickly and I don't have any nausea or vomiting with it. Should I be worried?

How long have you been banded? If it is very recently, I wonder if you might already have Fluid in your band which was put in at the time of surgery. If so, maybe have some fluid removed. If it isnt recently, maybe you are too tight?

I apologize if you have the info in your signature - I can't see it on my iPhone.

Not sure if you are newly banded but at first I had to take really small sips of liquid at a time. You may not have any fill in your band but at this point but you do have swelling. If you are not newly banded but have just had a fill it could be a couple of things. Once again... right after a fill... I am back to small sips. Also, you could be too tight. A few days after my fill, when the swelling subsides, I can drink normal again without having to sip. One more thought... you might have irritated your esophogus (sp?) with too big a bite of food. When in doubt... call your doctor... that's what they are there for! Hope this helps... hang in there... it gets better every day and is so worth it!

I'm still in the liquid phase, I was banded March 14th (I guess it would be helpful to know that, sorry!)

Jenn, I had 3cc's in my band straight out of surgery. I get the lump in my throat thing now when I've ate too fast or too much. It's a big red flag (for me) to stop. I also get a bad (feels like surgery gas) pain in my left shoulder that radiates up to my head. So, as soon as I feel that lump...I stop. wink.gif

I'm going to guess that you have some Fluid in your band, or the band itself is restriction for you and that's what you're feeling by the lump.

YMMV :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
