Post Op lap band gas

Recommended Posts

I had my lap band done 3/25/11 and I am home and have NO support. I have gas and don't know what to do? Is it too soon to walk? All I have eaten is veg. broth, Water and popcicles? I really need suggestions...

Hi.. I was banded on 3/24, and my surgeon told me to walk 20 min each day and make it to 30 so things keep moving... I like you have had really bad gas... the gas pains from surgery have gone away.. but now i just have plain ol gas.. haha.. im burping constantly, and its really annoying.. everyone says thats normal and its part of the band... my doctor said you could also start working out a week after surgery but take is slow... maybe just the tredmill for a while until you are completly healed... Have you also been doing your Protein drinks, your supposed to have 3 a day.. and trust me i know its hard because your like how am i supposed to drink all this when your not hungry, but ive been dehydrated twice since the surgery and had to get iv fluids so make sure your drinking enough... also you can drink a cup of skim milk, hot tea, sugar free Jello or pudding, lentil Soup, Vitamin Water zero, propel water zero or even gatorade... your also supposed to be doing 60-75 grams fo Protein a day (i def have not been because i have such resctriction im never hungry)... i finally get to start mushy foods on tomorrow and im defintely looking forward to it... just take your time... Ive also lost about 23 pounds...

I hope this helps a little... We could be hear for eachother as we were both banded around the same time..

;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
