Question about Restriction and Getting Stuck after fills or before?- 18 days post op!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone:

I am 18 days post op and just have a few questions. I am a faithful lapbandtalk member and have used this site as a huge support system during and after my surgery process. My question is, I am 18 days post op and now that my swelling is going down, I, like most you fellow bandsters am experiencing no restriction whatsoever....I am hungry every 2-3 hours, i can swallow pills with no problem....I have been taking Biotin Multivitamin capsules in case of Hair loss and am easily able to swallow them as well as eat just about anything without having any problems...so my question is, are your "stuck" stories during post op prior to your fills or after you get your fill? I am also curious to know that during this post op no restriction phase, since I am not experiencing problems with any foods going down, can I try salad or pretty much anything else prior to my first fill on April 15?

Thanks!

each person is different.. I have only gotten stuck twice.. The first time was on baked pork chops the second time was on chicken.. first time was becasue the meat was really DRY.. and the second was because i took too big of a bite. I haven't had any fills.. I am scheduled to get my first fill on Monday.. I am seven weeks post op.

I would say my experience has been very much like yours. I got stuck before my first fill because I was super hungry and ate a baby carrot to fast. It hurts like the dickens! I was lucky however in that it passed in 2-3 minutes. After a couple fills I got stuck again on baby carrots again because I ate to fast. My only other stuck episode came with grilled turkey tips that were too dry. Again it did pass after a couple minutes.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
