I don't really know how to ask this question??

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I really don't know how to ask this question, but my significant other is afraid to have relations after surgery because I will have a port in me. He thinks he will hurt me somehow. (men thats all they think about sometimes I think) I told him, I have read people exercise, do sit-ups, work out and are not reporting any issues. Is this something he/we should be concerned about? I feel a bit embarrassed asking this question...

My port is on the bottom of my braline in the middle and now that I have lost 84 lbs it does hurt if he puts a lot of weight or pressure there, but it is easy to avoid. You will figure out a way.

Tell him if he's not a ELEPHANT you'll get by.... Also there are other ways in case you are to sore for a while.

I have a hunch he won't be to disappointed...

Tell him to chill !!

Please don't be embarrassed, we're discussing a medical problem/condition and should be able to talk about things freely.

Once you're cleared for such activity by your doc, the port shouldn't be an issue at all. If he's all that worried, tell him you will take the lead and if anything at all feels uncomfy, you will let him know. There will be a period of time that the area over the port will be more tender.. but that won't be forever.

I do situps, lift weights, do yoga & pilates, have sex, do housework.. sometimes I WISH my port kept me from some of these activities.. LOL

How far out are you from sugery? Until the port area is complete healed it could hurt to put pressure

My surgery is scheduled for April 6, 2011. Thank you everyone or your response. I will have a chat with him and hopefully settle him down. I am hoping when I see the surgeon for my pre-op visit 3/25 he tells me where the port will be placed.

My doctor gave us a list of Q&A's and one of them was when can you resume sexual activity and the answer was 4 weeks. The doctor said you'll find a way so that it doesn't hurt if you put to much pressure on the port.

4 weeks? That's crazy, I was fine for that in days! Of course, no craziness allowed-dont' want to cause internal damage!

Don't be embarrassed, I was wandering about this myself. My husband has not even asked this question but I was worried and from the sounds of it once I heal that part of my life (wink wink) wont be affected. My surgery is scheduled for April 8 Good luck with yours. Keep us posted.

I'm going to be really frank here-- my experience is that sex is not only fine, but so much better after the lapband.

I did have port pain for at least a month after surgery-- I think i was on the longer end of things with that. But, after that, no problems. Sex is more enjoyable now, because as I've lost weight,I've lost it everywhere-- and it's much easier to get the stimulation to orgasm during sex than it was at my heaviest. Not only that, I have more energy and more interest.

So how long should one wait before being intimate with your partner? My boyfriend has been buggin me to make sure I ask the dr lol But I'm a bit shy.

Your Dr. will tell you how long to wait. You might lean towards that, you know give a hint.

Like when can we have sex? He will be able to tell from that straight forward question.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
