Day 3 and water feels stuck!

Recommended Posts

I was drinking sips of Water fine until today and now they feel stuck. The doctor at my 2 days post op said I have a ton a swelling still. But this is a scary feeling. Anyone else feel panicked?

I have to tell you that my third and fourth day were the worst part of this whole thing. I know that I had periods where I was taking too big of sips and it would feel tight on my chest. I switched from Water to something warm like tea and I was able to get more down also I took my pain meds that day too. If it continues I would call your doctor and maybe you need an unfill of any fluids that he put in until the swelling goes down. Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, you are still swollen. I was afraid too and would always call the doc office. They would tell me if I was in crucial pain I wouldnt be able to talk on the phone. It is very scarey but make sure you walk walk walk and take deep breaths. It's all normal, dont worry it will go away. I thought something was wrong and felt like I was having a heartattack but I wouldn't have known either way.

I spoke to the doctor and they want me to come in and have some air removed from the device. I didn't think they put air in it. Just saline. He said I will feel 100% better but car riding makes me so nauseous and uncomfortable right now. I am dreading that more.

I had the same problem. With small sips of Water, I can feel it sit, then pass through the band with pain. (sometimes a gurgling sound) I called the Dr. and said I 'm not getting any fluids in at all. He had me come in, day 3 after surgery. Stuck a needle in my port and pulled (vacuum) just in case there was any air in the band. Said sometimes there is a little trapped from the manufacturer.

It did not help. Got better the next day, and every day after that. Wrote it up as Post-op inflammation.

I had my first stick today (soup)...OMGoodness it was almost as bad an a gallbladder attack, which is almost as bad as a heart attack so I hear! It took about 90 minutes to go away and I almost vomited, and ended up with the runs on top. Today is only day 4 postop for me, and I never ever want to get stuck again.

When you say Soup, do you mean just broth?? I fortunately haven't had any problems with liquids so far. But I do notice if I take too big of a sip or if I take too much at once. It gets really tight right below below my sternum.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
