Yep, exercising is the key. I've been trying to stay motivated with that. I have more time now to get on the elliptical or treadmill. So, I have absolutely no excuses for staying off of them. Motivating factor for getting to onderland is that my hubby and I are going to try for a baby this year. I wanted to wait until May though, so that I will have that full year that doctors suggest. And to give me more time to lose more weight so that I'll be healthier and that the pregnancy won't be hard on me. I've just turned 40, so this is it. If I don't get pregnant by the end of this year then that's it, we won't try any more and will take steps for me not to get pregnant. Our last pregnancy, well, we lost the baby at 20 wks, which was tough. We needed to get over that and I needed to get healthier for both the baby and myself before we tried again. I'm hoping, anyway, that by being so much lighter, that it will help ensure a healthy pregnancy. Anyway, it's always very encouraging, seeing what all of you go through..your successes and even your lack of successes. Is there a pregnancy board anywhere, for lapbanders? I haven't really been able to find it. There's a pregnancy board on Obesity Health, but alot of the people there have had RNY, not lapband. Well, looking forward to more of Massachusetts folks posting and seeing what everyone is up to (no pun intended). Hope you all enjoyed the warm weather, even if it's raining...turning to snow. Ugghhh.

Take care!!

Cathy

Hi All !

Why haven't I seen this posting before???? I'm from MA and so happy to hear from others in the area. I admit, I get a little jealous when I hear about the other bandsters around the US getting together, having chats, etc. Now we finally have our own !!! Anyway........ I was banded May 23, and have been pretty successful with my band. I have had very little difficulty and would recommend this procedure to anyone who is thinking about WLS. I am helping my 70 year old Dad go through the process and hopefully he will have his surgery in March of this year. I hope the surgery/healing/losing are as smooth sailing as I have had it.

Good to chat with all of you. Off to go warm up my car on this terribly, terribly cold day ! BRRRRRRRRR:welcomeB:

Hey AAAmom welcome to the thread. I thought it was weird when I got on here that there were no threads from Massachusetts. Thinking to myself...what the heck....there are huge Bariatric Centers all around Boston and no one here. Well Now I'm glad I started a new thread. WELCOME everyone and I'm glad you're here!

Good luck to all not banded and getting ready for it. Congrats to all that are banded and those with a date to be banded :)

Hugs

HI,

I'm from Massachusetts and I'm seriously thinking about going with the Lapband. Can you fellow Mass residents tell me what hospital you got your surgery done at?

Thanks,

Sherri

Hi Sherri, I haven't been banded yet. My banding date is 2/13/06 and I'm having it done at Beth Israel Deconess Medical Center in Boston with Dr. Jones. I started the process December 4th and I'm already set to go. You can check out their website at http://bidmc.harvard.edu/display.asp?leaf_id=12530 I have nothing but good things to say about the Bariatric team and how I've been treated. They just opened a Bariatric Wing as well which is really cool.

Write me if you'd like more info.

Sherry

Hey fellow MA bandsters -- I haven't been down to this end of LBT in a while b/c there's usually no posts! Boy was I surprised to see all I've been missing! Welcome to the site all you newbies! I, too was banded at BIDMC. My doc was Schneider. I live in Medway -- (close to you Sherry!) which is just inside of 495 a little SW of Boston. I love my band and hope you all do too. If there's any questions I can answer, feel free to PM me or post here...........As far as Protein Shakes go, I like the Designer Protein b/c it has 28 g of protein and I want to get the maximum bang per ounce since post surgery it's like every little drop counts...........It was interesting in the end, I ended up with strawberry and vanilla flavors and never found a chocolate one I liked -- totally not like me! Off to meet the school bus -- I too have twins (and two singletons). I guess my weight gain could pretty much be summed up (sort of) right there -- 4 kids in 5 years...........20lbs, 20lbs, 20lbs...........great checkin in with you guys!

Hello Bandayed, Lalap and Flowergirl WELCOME! I'm glad you came back to the Massachusetts forum. Maybe we can all help each other out :) It quiets down a bit sometimes but, thats ok. Something will come up and please feel free to post it here as well. I'm not banded yet and I may have a bunch of questions once I am  Here is one for ya....Have any of you had to change your medication because it won't pass the band? Such as a pill that you now take liquid form for? Just curious

Sherry- I crushed my pulls for a while and then 1/2'd them for a while, but now I take them straight. I don't take any big ones though. My Dr says to crush or cut them at least....I just gave it a try straight one day and it worked so I've stuck with that........

Hmmm I'll have to ask my pharmicist if they can be cut or crushed. I know some of them can't be because they are time released. Thanks for letting me know as I've heard we shouldn't take any pills bigger than a birth control pill size.

You definately can't crush the time released ones. Some meds may have to be adjusted to a dose that is 2 or 3 times a day rather than time release. Talk to your Dr. i think you should think about making the med changes prior to surgery so that it's one less variable in your recovery..............

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
