Haven't eaten in three weeks

Recommended Posts

I'm baffled, and hungry and I'm post op day 12. My surgeon doesn't have a nutritionist on staff, but he has his PA that does all his post-op work and follow-up. So I sought the help of a nutritionist prior to the surgery and got all the information that I needed about post-op diet etc. Now my surgeon's PA has reprimanded me for following the nutritionists guidelines. I had strained Soup ONCE and also started to drink my Protein Shakes when she calls the next day to see how I'm doing and told me I wasn't allowed anything but broth (2oz, 3 times a day) until 2 weeks post op, and they had me on a clear liquid diet 1 week pre op. She said I'm getting plenty of Protein from the broth (which is less than 1 gram per serving), but my nutritionist said I should be having at least 50 grams a day. So whose advice should I follow? If I eat strained soup this soon will I stretch out my pouch? Is there some reason why I can't have anything of substance like a Protein Shake?

Are you drinking the stock from the Soup or eating the solids? I agree with your Nut that you need to be getting some Protein. My doctor said clear broth and Protein Shakes (no fruit, just fat free milk and protein powder) for 7 days. Day 8 I could have Tomato Soup and protein shakes, Day 16 I could add cottage/ricotta cheese, day 27 canned chicken.< /p>

You will likely get a number of differing views on this. One thing is for sure, doctors can differ greatly in their post op instructions. My doc had me back on solid foods in 3 weeks, mushies starting my 2nd week. I am now 20 months out and doing fine. You will also hear that many people that were absolutely starving on the post op liquid diet called their docs and were told they could start mushies. Perhaps you should speak directly with your surgeon about your concerns. I have to say that 1 gram of Protein per serving of broth sounds ridiculous -- but that's just my humble opinion. Also, in my opinion, I would not starve myself because a PA told me to do so. I would speak with my surgeon, tell him that I hired a nutritionist and explain the situation and how you are feeling.

It has got to be so frustrating to read about people eating mushies (some) after just a few days post band and there you sit eating broth! It is so important to get your Protein daily. Remember this is YOUR body and YOUR health. Get all the information you need and take care of yourself.

Good luck.

Just to stock. I strained the soup first.

Thank you so much! I think you're right, it is my body, and I am doing this to get healthy! I don't know if it's that healthy to go 3 weeks with 1 grams of protein each day. I think I'm going to start drinking my shakes at least. You know, we trust our doctors. I just assume that she's telling me not to eat or a reason, you know. I assumed that having the shakes would somehow compromise my surgery, but it hasn't hurt anyone else. to have Protein Shakes. I'm so confused about her reasoning behind it.

MY LORD YOU MUST BE STARVED

MY DOC DOES HAVE NUT.

I AM 8 DAYS OUT AND HAVE BEEN ON ALL liquid SINCE DAY TWO

WHICH INCLUDES Soup AND Protein Shakes

YOU NEED AT LEAST 50 GRAMS A DAY

THESE PEOPLE SOUND NUTS TO ME

WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE WHAT OTHERS SAY

USUALLY ON HERE THEY SAY TO LISTEN TO DOC

BUT YOUR PA SOUNDS LIKE A QUACK TO ME

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
