Surgery is Scheduled for March 8th - No Pre-Op Diet?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday, a week from today and my Dr hasn't given me a Pre-Op Diet. Has anyone else not been required to do the pre-op diet?

I stressed over this same issue as well. After several phone calls to the doctors office I was told to follow a high Protein low carb menu. I did this for 2 weeks and lost 12 pounds.

Good luck with your surgery!

I had been on a strict diet for 7.5 months so my doctor's office said to continue what I was doing (had lost 50 pounds). For the 2 weeks prior to surgery I did a Protein shake (breakfast and dinner), and a low fat/carb Protein based lunch. If you were to make your own shakes (and you might want to do that so you know what you like for the post op diet) make them with fat free milk, and no add ins (except for sugar free pudding powder, spices, sugar free syrups. The reason I say that is people talk about adding fruit like bananas which are high in sugar. Oh and Peanut Butter is high in fat.

Don't do a last supper mode, it's just fat you are going to have to lose after. That said I did have a sensible lunch the day before surgery since I knew it would be a month before I had solid food again.

Not sure what I just did. I wasn't put on a pre-op diet either. I was told to do two days of Clear liquids and eat/drink nothing on the day of surgery. I was doing some Protein shakes. I did add a couple of frozen strawberries but will not do that after surgery. I have been sick with a sinus infection and haven't felt like eating this week....so I have lost about 3 pounds. I plan to get back on track....my surgery is March 18th. I have been doing high protein/low carbs meals and drinking Protein Shakes for breakfast/dinner.

I was just told not to eat anything after midnight, the night before surgery.

My surgery is scheduled for March 8th too! I was not put on a preop diet either - they told me liquids only the day before surgery and nothing the day of. I have been driving myself crazy reading everyone's different diets and Dr.'s orders. I've finally realized to just follow what my Doctor says. I feel confident in him and have to stop reading so much. :D Sometimes it is information overload!

I had no pre-op diet either. I had to do Clear Liquids the day before and nothing 2 hours before admitting. My doctor had me drink a bottle of clear gatorade 2 hours before because they said that the more hydrated you are, you'll have less nausea post-op. My surgery went fine and I had no complications. Good luck to you :)

My surgeon didn't tell me to go on pre-op diet either and I stressed reading all of those pre-op diet posts. My surgery is the 8th as well. I am doing 2 shakes a day a yogurt for a snack and a Protein and salad, that's about it. I hope that I am doing the right things. I do know that after surgery I need to stay on the clear liquid diet. Good luck all!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
