lapband revision and hernia

Recommended Posts

So it has been 2 years and10 pounds from my goal weight when my band slipped. I had to have my band replaced and had a henia also. It has been a little over a week and am having a hard time getting going again. Has anyone gone though this and if so how long to recuperate and how long beore you should do any lifting?

I am sorry to hear of your slipped band and hope you recover quickly. I have not experienced this but your post has me very curious. Do you (or your doc) have any idea why after 2, apparently successful years in lapband land, your band would slip? Was it just a fluke or did something prompt the event?

Wow, two years? For me it was after a year. Apparently, my doctor only fixed mine instead of replacing. Mine was called an unresolved slip.

I think mine happened as a result of maybe the last fill being too tight, something got stuck and my band slipped.

I had surgery again and it was not fun. My surgery was almost 3 weeks ago and it was been a longer recovery since the first time.

I am kinda scared to get my band filled "too much" now. I only have 15-20 lbs. to go to meet my goal. I am hoping to loose it in a couple of months.

When I found out about it I was terrified because I had to "go under the knife again". Now I am fine because everything turned out fine. I also wondered if there were others who had to go back and get this fix and apparently there are!!

At least we have had the band for a while now where we know what to expect. Good Luck!

To your question about recovery: Physically, is taking me longer than the first time. Like I said 3 weeks (tomorrow) and I can still feel by inscisions very bruised. I can not lift over 10 lbs. and I can not do excrutiating exercise until I go see him next week. Its been definitly a longer recovery than the first one.

Do you have to pay for the surgery over again when something like this happens?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
