Sometimes stuck, sometimes not

Recommended Posts

Some days I can eat the legs off of a chair and others I struggle to keep mushies down. I have yet to have my 1st fill (having on on 3/1). Is it normal to be tight one day and not the next? I have been given the green light to eat solids and I have been following all the rules. Makes planning meals difficult, if I don't know if I will get stuck. Any advice is helpful

Thanks Bunches

I am sometimes tighter in the morning. All sorts of things influence the tightness of your band including stress, your period, if you have a cold coming on, etc. Try to drink hot liquids before your meals if you feel a bit tight. Make sure you're chewing well and eating slowly too.

I can say that at least for me, that has become a way of life. I can rarely eat solids for Breakfast, it is smoothies or maybe some yogurt. But I keep some things on hand just in case I have a hungry morning. As for lunch and dinner, my restriction fluctuates from week to week. But with after settling in with the band, learning to eat properly and just tuning in with the way I feel I have learned to read my restriction and can plan my meals accordingly.

Be very open about this with your doctors office. At my last fill where I think I've reach restriction the nurse gave all this technical reasoning why you are tighter in the morning. Most of which I don't remember. But, yes you will feel tighter first thing in the morning. Also the more stressed you are the tighter the band will feel. Personally I would not get a fill if you are unable to eat solids. At restriction the nurse said I may not be able to eat solids in the morning and may need to wait a couple hours to eat yoghurt. If you get fill when you are too tight it could cause you major problems (vomiting, frothing). If could be that when they placed the band there was fat around your stomach. Until you loose that fat the band may not need to be tightened/filled.

It is normal for me.

Bands can be fickle things. They can vary day-to-day. What went down well yesterday might get stuck today. It is just the way of it. It gets very frustrating at times.

Even after three years banded, I still experience it. It gets annoying when you go to a restaurant, get your food, take one bite, and then have to sit there and stare at it....hoping it will go down. Doggie bag time. I've learned to order things that travel well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
