Ok I'm ten days post op, had my daughters 10th birthday today and the wife puts me in charge of slicing the homemade incredibly cheesy and delicious Pizza.. OH MAN!!!!!! Now that was a tough one while I sit here sipping my Protein Shake :( Someday I'll be able to taste that pizza again someday.

Pizza used to be one of my favorites. Though I don't eat normal pizza anymore, I make my own at home and it tastes great. Find a low carb tortilla (Mama Lupe, Mission, or Flatout all have them) and use spaghetti sauce, mozzarella, and top with anything else you like. Pop it in the oven for a few and there's your "pizza." I sometimes use turkey pepperoni. Not the same, but comes real close. Works for me!

I'm 8 days post op, and my family has been so very good to me, except that my husband brought home this gigantic burrito from this authentic mexican food place that we both love. I told him that he could eat it in the bedroom out of my sight! I'm so hungry! I can deal with most foods not being overly tempting, but chocolate and mexican food are too much for me to bear. Though I really just can't wait until the day I can eat something substantial like oatmeal. HA!

I think it is also retraining the brain. I had 2 pizzza's looking me in the face last weekend for about 15 mins. I reminded myself that was my favorite food now I don't eat that. We use to have pizza every Friday night. I can't get back into that old habit. I am 2.5 wks post-op. I am thinking crustless pizza for a treat one day for a special treat. For me is more about the cheese...

Last night I made meatless buffalo tenders with fat free blue cheese - yummy! Just have to be creative!

Good luck all!

K

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
