Strangely enough, my band doesn't stop me from eating lots but it has stopped me wanting to smoke as much - has anyone else experienced this? I was averaging about 1/2 to 1 pack a day and now that I have had some fill put in I have maybe 5 smokes a day?! Weird huh?

I believe the name of the drug your talking about is called Acomplia a.k.a. Rimonabant. It is supposed to stop cravings through chemical changes in the brain and is also known to help smokers according to what I've read. You can do a web search or here's a quick link: www.drugdevelopment-technology.com/projects/rimonabant .

My PCP recently told me about this as well b/c he knows I'm going for the lapband (which he still supports). I am starting to get the impression that this drug mfgr is putting a lot into marketing of this drug with PCP's to get the word out that it's coming this summer.

I am still more convinced then ever, that the band is the way for me. This drug does seem to have some good advantages however, we have seem so many of these "miracle" drugs come & go. Who knows, maybe this would be a good tool to use to stop smoking b4 having the lapband surgery. :)

I smoke. I should quit before surgery. But I probably won't. My bad. My surgeon knows I smoke and hasn't said a word to me about it. And I am NOT saying it was the right thing to do... but I smoked during the time I had to have a hysterectomy and didn't have any surgery/recovery complications. I do agree healing is easier without this nasty monkey on a person's back. I just can't seem to kick the habit. It's frustrating.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
