First Fill

Recommended Posts

I am now 6 weeks post op. I have only lost 17 pounds as I stayed on a very restrictive liquid diet. The diet has been lifted and in the past 4 days, I feel like I could eat everything in sight. Is this normal? Is this also an indication that i need my first fill? I was afraid i had streched the band, because I ate a few things that I should not have. Any help would be appreciated. I see my doctor in 3 days.

Thanks,

Che

The first 4-6 weeks are for healing, not weight loss. If you watched a video of your surgery you'd realise why it's so important to listen to what your Dr says and stay with what's on your list to eat.

At this point though, you are very likely ready for a fill. You'll want to make sure to monitor your Protein intake, Fluid intake, weight, etc. to show your Dr. your progress and your current situation. Don't lie about anything. Some people are tempted to say that they're losing weight to make themselves feel good - that won't help you. You likely won't get a fill if you're losing. Conversely, if you lie and say you're not losing but you are - then you risk actually being overfilled.

If you go see your Dr with a good track document showing how you're doing s/he'll be able to make the right decision for what you need at this point. If you are super hungry all the time and feel like you could eat anything tell them that. But don't tell them you CAN eat everything if you've just come off of a liquid diet. Chances are you can't eat as much as you think.

1-2 pounds per week is expected with a band. You are WELL ahead of average.

That said, many people do not lose during the immediate post-op phase. Not feeling restriction is not uncommon. Do not feel alone. Go about your busiess, get your fill, and relax. You are doing fantastic!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
