Travel After Surgery Question

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've tried contacting the Dr's office today but it is closed. I am scheduled for surgery on the 12th of Jan and just found out from work that I have to travel on the 3rd - 8th of Feb. Does anyone know if the doctors have any issues with traveling out of the country this soon after surgery? I won't even have my first fill quite yet. I have to approve the flight itinerary today, so any help is appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Kim

I wouldn't think so. You should just about be back to normal by then. But you better call when they're open just to make sure. Have fun! & Congrats on your new band!

I travelled (from the West Coast to the East Coast) 3 business days following my surgery. Boy, was THAT a mistake! I didn't actually feel human until about 10 days following surgery, and within a couple days after that felt great. The only real downside was a sensation of absolute discomfort, and not being able to eat anything, and nausea. I figured, I will not be feeling well, anyway, so I may as well be productive!

Not smart!

But with you being 2-3 weeks out, you will likely be fine. Individual mileage will vary, see your dealer for details.....

Cheers!

I suggest making sure there's a band surgeon wherever you travel, just in case of emergencies. Other than that, make sure to pack only comfy clothes (general rule for anyone banded.) No tight jeans or binding clothing, lots of liquids and move around the plane so you don't cramp. Oh, and have fun and buy me presents ;)

Thanks guys - I went ahead and accepted the assignment - I mean who doesn't want to go to Cancun?? DeLarla - I could bring back Dr. Lopez for you :-) --- that would make a nice souvenir- no? Ok, so I'll check and see if there's a lap band surgeon on hand around that area in case of problems - only a 2 1/2 hour flight back to Texas though if I needed to rush out for any reason I guess. Thanks for all the advice guys.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
