Stupid Question-Tanning

Recommended Posts

Okay I know it's not good for me, but if I wanted to use a tanning bed  Am I able to with the band? That sounds weird but I don't know if the direct exposure would do anything. Also, wonder how soon after? I know the incisions would need to be well and healed. Any thoughts?

I have no idea when it's ok to tan but i would think anytime really. as long as your incesions are healed you should be ok. it's not going to hurt the band. i plan on starting tanning here in a few wks. i need a good base tan before spring/summer gets here because i'm lily white lol. plus if you are tan you don't look as heavy. so see i think it's a good thing lol

I was banded 3.5 years ago and have tanned each February/March (right before my family goes to Disney World in sunny Florida) with no problems at all. I would imagine that as long as your incisions have healed that you shouldn't have any worries. It wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor if you are really worried about it. I am sure they have heard it before and will have an answer one way or another for you. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
