Remove fluid before any surgery?

Recommended Posts

I got my lapband 3 years ago, and it's working great. I lost 50 lbs and am keeping it off. I'm getting my overies removed next week and my lapband dr. says I have to have all the Fluid removed before any surgery. He's afraid that if I throw up it might make the banc slip. I throw up all the time, and it's never slipped. It's a 2 hour drive to get the fluid removed, so I'm wondering if I really have to do it, or if my general dr. can remove the fluid.

Whether or not your band will slip is not the issue. The fact that you "throw up all the time" is. You should not be throwing up all the time and you need to tell your bariatric surgeon as well as your gyne surgeon about this. It is not normal nor healthy and it will cause problems in the future if it continues. You are either too tight, eating too fast or the wrong foods, but whatever the reason, it needs to be addressed.

I was concerned about your comment about throwing up all the time as well. This is not normal or healthy. My guess is you are probably too tight. As far as Fluid removed before surgery- I had a Tummy Tuck and boob job and I didn't have the fluid removed. Was never told I needed too- and I was fine. Tell your doctor about the throwing up! Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
