How many incisions? Scars?

2 Quick Questions: 1. How many incisions did you have? (Was anyone able to have just one incision? I've heard that some doctors are doing that now). 2. What are the scars from the incisions like? (Are they very noticeable? Do they heal a little over time?)

I had 5 incisions. Four little ones that have shrunk to about a1/4 inch and the big one is about 3 inches. I had a severe hiatal hernia repair also which accounts for the larger incision. Good luck on your journey :)

When I had my first band surgery I came out with 4 incisions. Here is a post with a photos of my incisions and how they looked after some time

Since I have had a few surgeries I have a few different scars that are all at different stages of healing. I really must do another post like this again soon. My last band surgery was July and the scars from that time are not even noticeable unless you within 12inches of my stomach staring at them as I point to them.

My surgery was more extensive than most. In addition to the normal band incisions, I had a hiatal hernia and a ventral hernia repaired at the same time the band was placed. So I ended up with 13 incisions. Yikes! All but one are very small. Most are just "poke hole" types. The largest is where the port was placed. It's about two inches long. They're all fading, and I expect they'll be mostly invisible in time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
