That was a very interesting article! Thank you for sharing! I am weighing all my options but am leaning toward the banding. My very good friend had RNY last year and her weight loss has slowed because she has learned how to eat...constantly...I am afraid for her ..that she will regain the weight (about 80 lbs) and her surgery will have been for nothing. Goes to show you that the "head hunger" must be dealt with!

Thanks for sharing. I printed a couple copies for relatives that are interested in weight loss surgery, but are still deciding on what form. Maybe my encouraging and this article will help make them LBTers!:)

That was really an interesting article. I'm printing off a copy for my NP and my sister's PCP, who was not at all familiar with the band when she asked for a letter of recommendation.

Thanks for the article. I wish the media would talk about the lap band as much as the RNY. Seems like the band doesn't get enough recognition. My opinoin only though.

It looks like the band is finally getting some recognition from various sources. Yippee!! The more positive public press, the less insurance nightmare - I hope!

Thanks for the Article. I love the way they put the mortality rate out there for the world to see. I wasn't overly enthused about the band when my doc mentioned it to me - because ALL she said was that it was slower than by-pass. She did NOT mention that the pay-off for the slower loss is the much lower complication & mortality rate.

Uh - that's kind of important in MY consideration of which surgery to have!

Oh well. If I ever get insurance approval, I will educate my PCP as I go.

:]

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
