Has anyone had issues with painful hiccups when food is trying to pass through the band?

After my surgery and first fill, I would have mild hiccups that lasted about a minute - whereas I had not really ever had them before. Since my second fill to 2.0cc on Monday, the hiccups have increased in intensity, duration, and frequency if I attempt anything more than liquids.< /p>

Thanks!

Hi Tiffany..

Hiccups for me is a sure sign from my band to STOP.. NOW.. (eating that is).. If I eat just a bit to much.. wammo... I get the hiccups and at times they can be pretty intense...

If you are getting the hiccups with just drinking liquids you are toooo tight...

Have they gotten any better since your fill or has it gotten worse?

Sometimes after a fill your stomach is a bit swollen.. may take a few days to go down...

Hi Kathy!

The hiccups usually do not start until after I have completed my meal...let's say 10 minutes afterwards. I have never had them when I only consume liquids....just with soft to solid foods. I'm following the guidelines of slow, small, and well chewed. I just have not seen anyone post too much about dealing with hiccups.

I am getting a little more food consumption down today without the painful knot feeling....but I might still have a little swelling since Monday's fill. I'm just waiting to see if the hiccups come back post lunch.

Thanks for responding!

Hiccups - your diaphragms answer to being 'full'. Hiccups, sudden runny nose, sudden bouts of coughing or sneezing, one single hiccups. All those are your diaphragm being agitated and saying WHOA, you're almost there. And if you go past THERE, lookout.. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
