Recommended Posts

I was banded on Thursday and havent even been able to drink Water well, each tiny sip causes serious pain as it passes throught the band. I cant get the gas pain to go away and am completely miserable. I need help, what can I do?

Walk, walk, walk! They put a lot of air in your abdomen to do the surgery and it takes several days to go away. I called it the bloat! But it will go away. When you're laying down-try lying on your left side and pull your knees as close to your chest as you can get them. Hang in there- it gets better. The worst thing you could do is just lay around- move around because it helps start to move the air out.

If drinking causes you pain you need to go to your doctor now before you get dehydrated. You should not have pain when drinking

I'm wondering if your surgeon put Fluid in the band at time of surgery. If so, call and have it taken out. You shouldn't have to struggle to take small sips.

Little sips. Try to get 1 tablespoon down an hour. Call your doc. I was also "snug" after surgery and it was tough. Warm (not hot) chicken broth helped as well.

I was told only ice cold Clear Liquids the first 5-7 days and keep an ice pack high and left as much as you can. Ice helps swelling go down, not heat. I call in to the surgeon wouldn't be a bad idea, just so you can have a conversation with him/her and the situation can be evaluated by them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
