Those who can't lose any weight after the band first few fills

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty jealous that some of you can drink carbonated drinks. I miss cola and beer and champagne! My doc said if I was craving it to take a sip and spit it out, and he's pretty insistant about it. I think his reasoning is that the carbonation will stretch out the pouch above the band, but I'm not sure. Since he feels so strongly about it, I'm going with it.

Im so jealous!!!

Thank you for your post :) I'm so glad you are happy with your band and found that sweet spot :) It gives me hope that I will find myself losing soon.

I'm still in search of the sweet spot, I've not lost any weight in about 2 months. I got another fill today and hope to find my sweet spot soon. This period bettween the band and getting restriction is depressing me.

Thanks for this post! I'm only at fill #2 and feel more restriction then fill #1, but I'm still not there yet. I feel as if I'm close but during fill #1 it was hard to not get discouraged. I think I spent those 3 weeks trying to figure out what I'm suppose to be feeling, its like playing a guessing game and I don't like those

As time is going by I feel I'm getting to know the band more and how I should be feeling. With my morning shake (which I'm getting about 38g of protein) I can go 5-6 hours without hunger. I have noticed that at some points when I was grazing I wasn't even hungry I just was doing my usual habit. That is the hardest part to break.

For me the eating right/dieting is the easy part, its the mental part that is extremely hard.

Keep up the work everyone! It pays off eventually

Thank you. I got your message and agree that it will be inspirational for people. I was one of the lucky ones who started losing weight right away but there are those out there that need to hear your message that if they can get through the period known as "bandster hell", there is hope out there for them.

Thanks for the messages. Answering or commenting on the few issues.

pizza and Soda: I have to be honest here. I was eating that and believe it was going down fine. You do not realize till (now) that it was woowww. Today we went to pizza hut with the family and all I could eat was top of a single slice in 30 minutes. What I wanted to show is that there are people like me here who do continue their old eating habits and portion size and after you finish your meal (unfortunately only after:))) you feel guilty and ask why you still do that after the band. I call this "magic pill phase" as many like me thought band will change things day 1.

Hunger and eating: After my visit to an experienced nutritionist, she in fact suggested that to me same did my doctor. Eat only when you are hungry. Not when you are starving. But do differentiate when you are really hungry or eating from other reasons such as socializing with a lunch with friends, family dinners, etc. I started using their advice. I did not cook or always prepared and eaten my food before I did enter the kitchen. Unfortunately I was not at the dining table for a while, etc. And immediately 10 kg (20 pounds) was gone. I was not hungry at all.

Sweet spot: ElfiePoo; sweet spot is the phase when you do not eat like before and you are very much restricted. If you can still eat like before or way too much than you might need another fill. At sweet spot hunger is almost diminished.

Purpose of my message is not start a discussion on eating habit but give hope to people. Cause I lost hope at one point.

Well. It was nice to read that Iam not alone in this journey. I am not loosing weight and it is very depressing. I have no fill and cant wait to get my first one.. But it is discouraging to know the first one may not do the trick. I am starting to feel like I should have had the gastric bypass...

THANK YOU, KERIM! YOU HAVE GIVEN ME HOPE! I have had 3 fills and feel NO DIFFERENCE. I realize I need to be patient. I am so pleased to hear you've hit your sweet spot.

I wanted to reported this here as it seems we either say something when we panic or when we finally lost lots of weight. I have been banded August 2010 in UK (single incision surgery from my belly button). I was very much scared from the surgery but all was fast and ok. I got my belly button infected so it was my first disappointment but finally it went away and healed perfectly. I am on a 14 cc band and 1 cc was in the band when they placed it.

I got my first fill 1cc fill in October 2010. It did not effect my eating much except instead of 2 large pizza and 2-3 large coke, I was down to 1 large pizza and lots of coke. I was demotivated and asked myself if I did the right thing. Now there was something in my body and if I wanted it out I needed another surgery. After 1 month, there was almost no change in my weight. So I got another fill. again more chock episodes but everything was down one or other way and no weight loss at all. second fill, third fill, forth fill. etc. Imagine after each fill NO CHANGES. It was frustrating. I was reading here people having no fill and losing lots. Anyways as of Jan 2011, I got my fifth fill. Yes it works:)). I am at my sweet spot. I feel never hungry. I can not eat more than handful of whatever I want, soft mainly mushy. I can not drink fizzy drinks. And it feels different. I also started seeing many stretchmarks and started gym a month ago.

For those who are like me, after so many fills you haven't seen much difference. Just be patient and wait. You will definitely find your sweet spot. And one tip. never ever eat if you do not feel hungry, just because its dinner time and everyone in the family is around the table. My rules in losing weight:

- Do not eat anything in the morning till a moment you really really feel hungry.

- If you have a partner, let him/her prepare family meals. stay away from food, kitchen or supermarket.

- Wait till you will hit your sweet spot. You can definitely not eat a bowl of rice.

- Do enroll at a gym. Believe me even in 1 month, it does wonders. You will not lose weight as you wished because you are gaining muscles (for men and for those who are more into weight training like me). But you will lose inches.

- Remember it worked for soooo many people and will work for you.

- Ice creams, candies, anything you can suck or melts in your mouth is your enemy. Make a drastic change.

Kerim

Was 129 kg in Aug and now 110 KG: 19kg lost which is almost 40 pounds

Wanted to reply to my own post lolol

It's been 5 days since my 3rd fill and I am finally knowing what the lap band is supposed to be like. I'm not hungry all the time, I can eat a small amount and be full. So far I've not got any food "stuck" and am eating slowly. A Protein shake in the morning and 2 small meals is making me satisfied. Which last week I would have been starving. Yay lap band!

Your honesty is appreciated. You're right, there are a lot of us who are still struggling with old eating habits that didn't disappate just because we got banded. It takes a lot to be honest because so many people here want to pretend they're perfect and criticize others instead of being supportive.

I joined LBT because I knew I couldn't do this alone. I need help, ideas and warnings from others. Thanks for your post!

Kerimhann,

Your post is helpful! Although I have not eaten a whole pizza or drank soda, there are times that I have not made the healthiest of choices in this journey. My weight loss is very slow...at about a half pound a week, if that, but it is still very slowly coming off. I still eat more than I am supposed to, but not nearly like I used to eat. I also make better choices at least 70% of the time. I have my third fill today. Before this fill today, I have 2 CC in a 4 CC band. I am hoping that this one helps me find this sweet spot that everyone speaks of. Good luck to you! It seems like for me I can stay fairly focused for a week or two and then I have a couple of really bad days, and then I get myself back on track. It seems to be a vicious cycle with me! I am far from the perfect bandster, but I think that I could be much worse!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
