Hi my name is keissa, and I was just banded Dec.22, 2010 .I haven't really been eating, because I'm not hungry! So my question to you is, should I make myself eat? And if so, do I really have to eat 4 to 5 meals a day? And how far apart should my meals be? I'm so confused!!

My nut said that you should only eat 3 meals a day.... Gastric bypass does the 4 or 5 meals as far as I know. Look I look at it this way. You HAVE to eat to loose weight. your body will go into starvation mode and not weight loss mode. You must eat and eat healthy so your body can be healthy enough to loose weight.

I had the same problem in my first month. It was like I had to set an alarm to remind myself to eat something. That will change! My recommendation would be to get used to the meal routine now because it will be hard for you to adjust when you actually are hungry.

My doctor actually did recommend 4-5 meals a day for the first few months, but honestly I usually average 3. It's really hard to eat that often with my schedule. Good luck!! :-)

Oh and btw Don't feel bad there is no way I can get in 4-5 meals a day that I am supposed to with my pre op diet I can tolerate it so what meals I do eat I make count.

Well how's ur weight loss been goin? If not so good its bc ur not eating and that starvation modes kicked in or will eventually. Plus u should eat bc u need ur Protein and Fiber..otherwise u won't feel so good. My doctor wanted me doing 3 meals a day but I found I was gettin enough Protein and meeting the daily totals, so I do the 4-5 mini meals..3 meals and 1-2 Snacks a day with one of the Snacks is usually a Protein Drink..a low cal one like myoplex lite. And at the beginning during healing I wasn't too hungry as well..ur still probably a lil swollen..but that will change soon..around the 5th week I was beginning to be really hungry and it took me a few times with the fills to be comfortable..it'll happen, just follow the instructions by ur doc, tweak a lil if u must to better fit you..bc everyone is different..just remember a lot is trial and error and it takes a lil bit to get the hang of it..its been almost 3 yrs for me and I finally feel like I got the swing of things. Good luck!!

You've got to get the basic Protein in and basic calories or your body doesn't have enough to use to heal you. Call your Nutritionist. Get some good Protein Powder and at least have that. You may have to remind yourself to eat.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
