Hello!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm Marcy, a 35-year old mom of three, wife, and nurse. :-) I'm in the process of getting insurance approval, but the clinic I'm going to is going to hold off on submitting a request until I get sleep study results (work up for sleep apnea). I see my PCP on Monday for a referral to a pulmonologist. I passed my psych eval just fine, and also saw my surgeon yesterday for the big consult. So, right now it's a waiting game. I started with a BMI of about 54, am at about 51 now, but my insurance requires a comorbitity regardless. I'm hoping to have the actually surgery no later than about 3 months from now. If insurance denies my first claim, the clinic will send it thru their attorney and he has a pretty tight "win" record, but it takes 4-6 weeks to hear back on the appeal. Word has it the medical director of my insurance plan is "fat-predjudiced" and they're in a run of denials.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!

I'm playing the waiting game too so I know how you feel. I 'm hoping to get approved within the next 2 weeks or so and be banded sometime in FEB. Good luck on your journey!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
