pre-op diet day 2 is

Recommended Posts

Harder than day 1. I don't want to complain but someone please tell me the next 2 weeks are going to fly by.

Today I was day dreaming about food! Pathetic! No headaches or anything. Just hungry, and want food!

My surgery is on the 25th and I'm on day 4 of the pre-op diet. Today was probably the easiest, though I did take a bite of my son's cookie without thinking (I spit it out). The first few days I was trying to do it without extra vegi Soup or vegetables (which are permitted on my diet if hungry), but yesterday I had some Soup and it made a difference. I really hope these next 10 days fly by.

Are either of you getting banded at the Obesity Control Center?

More Protein. Add more broths to your "diet" that should help. But I haven't started yet, so I could be wrong. :) This too shall pass! :) Hang in there and I will join you tomorrow and you can tell me how it will pass and I'll get through. hehe

I can tell you, it will get easier. The first few days are the hardest by far. I was on liquids from Jan 1 to Jan 8th and then Clear Liquids on the 9th and 10th. On day 3 or so, I thought my stomach was going to eat itself. Fortunately, I was at work for most of those middle days so that had my mind pre-occupied. I drank my Protein Shakes, drank broth, I was able to have yogurt without fruit (Chobani greek saved my life), Jello and sugar free pudding. By the time I got to the clear liquids, my stomach had kinda gotten used to being empty. Sounds weird but it's true. the morning of my surgery, the nurse asked me how the liquid diet had gone and I told her that it hadn't been as bad as I thought towards the end and she said that's what most patients experience. Now, being on the other side of lapband, I'm truly not really hungry but I know I have to get my Protein shakes in and keep myself hydrated. I can honestly say, I won't drink broth or eat jello ever again! I'm working on diluted low cal gatorade, Water and crystal light. So far so good. My pain level is very minor which I am thankful for. I only took the rx liquid pain medicine on day 1 and 2. Not that my scale at home is accurate but using it just to calculate lbs lost from the day I started liquids to this morniing....I'm down 14 lbs!

I can't even look a food on TV I have to turn my head. I can't see how I'm gonna make it.......but I'm strong and I just got to keep saying every day that I can't eat TODAY. Sykes myself up to just get through one day at a time.

My surgery is scheduled for Jan. 20th. I am now on day 9 of my pr-op diet. The first 3 days are the worst. Just remember this too will pass :) .

I just found out I am scheduled for surgery on January 21st. I wanted to reply since most of you are having your sugeries around the same time I will be. I am not on a preop diet for some reason. I only have to be sure not to eat the day prior to my surgery. I do plan to diet this week, however, using the Atkins induction. My surgeon mentioned losing a few pounds may help shrink my liver a bit and make me a better candidate for a scarless procedure. I have a weird tip for those of you struggling...may or may not help, but here it is...if you're allowed to eat them, David's sunflower seeds with the shells really help me curb those cravings by giving me something salty and something for my mouth to do for a while. They are very low carb.

Best wishes to all.

Ok, so day 3 is MUCH better than day 2. Yesterday felt like quitting smoking! (Which I did a year ago.)

Carb withdrawal maybe???

Today is day three of my 2 week pre-op diet and I feel your pain. I have been so grouchy and it's harder to deal with this diet when I still have to cook dinner for my family. I feel like I'm being punished. The point of me getting the lap-band is because I lacked the dicipline to follow strict diets. I mean, they must know this is an up-hill battle for those with obesity issues.

ok, so today is day 3 for me, I drank about 6 cups of 98% fat free low sodium chicken broth last night 6g fat, 40 cals (I WAS told I could have all i wanted), and ate 2 heaping helpings of sugar free Jello, really seamed to help, i wasnt too hungry, today on the other hand I feel a gnawing in the pit of my stomack that is distracting me from work. I can do this!

I'm 12 days into my two week liquid diet and it still sucks. I'm not a sweets person, so shakes are fine but im eventually going to need some savory! I've had lots of cheats, mostly turkey bacon or something else that's high Protein and low carb. I had a doctor visit 8 days in and had lost ten pounds.

I can't wait to get back to my low carb lifestyle - no shakes allowed! At least not in the beginning.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
