Port Revision?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone so I got the lap band on Feb 10th 2010 and I only had 1 successful fill. So far I went from 261 pounds to 208. I been feeling really frustrated because I was told about 6 months ago that my port had flipped over and I'm finally going to have a revision. I really didn't think this would happen to me and I don't want to go under the knife again. My surgeon said that I have to go under all the way is that true??

Most surgeons do put you under. It isn't a long procedure and is an in and out kinda of thing. I had one done back in Dec. and other than being a little sore in that area (not even enough to take pain meds) it wasn't a big deal for me. Hope it is that way for you too.

I assume you do a liquid diet? If so 2 days like after a fill or longer?

I have been through 2 port revisions and neither was that bad. I didn't even need a tylenol afterwards and went back to work the next day. I didn't have to go back to a liquid diet or anything just the normal "nothing to eat or drink after midnight" routine that you get with all surgeries. The worst part was trying to get an I.V. inserted because I was a little dehydrated but after that it was a piece of cake! I hope things go smoothly for you, best of luck!

I did not have a flipped port, but mine is leaking. My replacement is scheduled for the 18th. Right now, I am being told that they will do a local to the area and I will not need to go fully under anesthesia. However, there is always a possibility for when they go in for the surgery. Good luck!

My doctor truly has no idea what caused either of my cases. Two days after surgery I had a very violent coughing attack and I felt a horrible burning pain in the area of my port. I called the dr's office right away but the nurse told me that while it was possible to rip out my stitches by coughing it was highly improbable. I am thinking that is what happened on my first go around since we discovered my port had flipped at the 6 wk appointment for my first adjustment. Not quite sure about how it happened the second time. Currently my port flops around at will, but since it is still accessable and I can get adjustments the dr and I are not going to worry about it just yet.

Did you do liquids after the surgery?

Yes I did liquids after both port revisions but just on the day of surgery after I came home. I was able to go back to my normal diet afterwards.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
