Question about band slippage.......

Recommended Posts

OK, here goes.......I had been getting gall stones pain about a year ago (i had no gall bladder, though). Turned out i had band dilation so they emptied it. I gained about 35 lbs back (UGH).

Well, here we go again - after I eat (especially in the evenings) I get horrid gall stones pain again (still no gall bladder :) ) and was told i may have a slipped band. How does doc go about finding out if band has slipped? Is band replaced or just fixed if indeed it has slipped.

Another question.........I've been thinking about switching over to gastric bypass but don't want to have to go through the entire process again. Has anyone gone from lap band to gastric and what was your experience?

Thank you so much in advance! God Bless :)

Andrea

To find out if band is slipped your doc could do an X-ray with fluoroscopy where you are x-rayed and have to drink barium and he/she can see how the band is working. I think that is the only way, besides surgery to determine problems like slippage. Then to correct a problem like that I'm afraid it may mean more surgery. Don't know about the gastric bypass switch, but my sister did gastric bypass about 8 years ago and she did very well. Lost 160 pounds. But life is hard living with the bypass. What I like about the band is that it is not permanent; if you ever wanted it out ( not that I ever would) you could have it taken out. Once you do the bypass, there is no going back. To me, that is a little more intense. Anyway good luck. I hope you feel better soon and get some answers, Liz

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
