Where is my port?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

This may seem like a silly question... but I never though to ask my surgeon where my port is. I'm 3 weeks post op, and I had five incisions. The longest is slightly above and to the left of my belly button (when looking down at myself). Is that most likely my port? I don't really feel anything under there. My other 4 incisions are very very small. The reason I'm asking is because for the past few days I've had a sharp muscular pain in my stomach located near my galbladder, slightly below my ribs. Painful with certain movements and tender to touch. I'm wondering if that is where my port would be located?

Does anyone have any advice? Should I call my surgeon, or is this just part of the healing process?

Thank you so much!

Your port is located near the biggest scar. It will be tender for a few more weeks. It's all part of the healing process; certain movements will hurt for a little as your port is sewn to your abdominal muscle.

my port is on the opposite side of my belly button... and its right above the scar. you'll have occasional pain there. even 3 years post-op i still get a twinge every once in awhile especially while at work because my desk seems to be the same height as my port and i lean on it all the time!

Once you start losing, you should be able to feel exactly where it is. Your muscles will be sore for a while but you will start feeling better in a few weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
