Back to Liquids & Mushies? Confused!

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill on 12/15/06 - 2cc. At the end of my appointment, my doc said - "don't forget, 2 days liquids, then 2 days soft foods..." What?! :P I didn't know that I would have to go back to liquids & soft foods after every fill  . Is this the routine protocol for everyone or is it just my doc's policy?

I'd like to hear from some of you out there...:)

(PS: Happy New Year!)

Tanya, it's my understanding that you have to give your body a chance to get use to the restriction. You wouldn't want to get a fill, eat a meal and realize that it ain't goin' thru the smaller opening.

My doctor's a little different. He says liquids the rest of the day, then begin soft foods the next day and solids as you feel ready (can begin solids the day after a fill). From what I understand you may have swelling after a fill, therefore liquids for the rest of the day. Then the soft food stage is to kind of test the restriction before going on to solids.

I would definitely go with what your doctor recommends, though.

I never make the mushies the 2nd day. Maybe that'll change with more fill. But by the end of the first day I'm having mushie food because I just know there's not tons of restriction.

I have only had one fill and I felt like I was starting all over again. It took me a couple of weeks to feel " normal" again. If we ever feel normal. It will go away though and you can go back to eating.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
