Glad to see all you youngsters doing so well, I was banded 8/12 of this year and have lost almost

50 lbs and reduced my A1C to 6.1 (that was the object of the whole thing). I wish I had done this

30 years ago, but better late than never.

hi, I am 62 and am post-op lapband surgery times one week. I was alittle afraid of having something like this done at my age, but I do feel about 40. I am on so many meds that I knew if I keep going the way I am, I will be dead very soon. I am glad I had it done and am so happy with it. I have lost close to 40 lbs. So, yes there are mature adult having the lap band.

I'm 61 today. 3 yrs out from first band and one year from second one. Long story. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Still not at goal but not bands fault. I would do it at any age. My daughter and I are both banded which helps because we are our biggest support team.

Thanks Leah! What kind of insurance does your dad have? Is he trying to get Medicare to pay? I will have that in May and if my BCBS refuses I will try Medicare. Thanks for the encouragement!

Sharon

Medicare will pay even without pre approval!

Hi, I'm 61 also. I am just starting on my journey and hope to be able to get banded even if I have to pay for it myself. Right now I'm filling out my paperwork for insurance verification but I really don't think our insurance will cover it,

My cardiologist suggested this two years ago but I wasn't open to it. Then I hit 306 lbs. At 5 ft that is a huge amount. I'd dropped about 15 lbs and hold about 290. In April my gyn told me I needed a hysterecomy and sent me to a specialist. He said flat out he wouldn't even attempt surgery unless I lost 100 lbs. His next words were "Have you considered bariatric surgery?"

You don't need to hit me with a 2x4 for me to see that this was looking like my only option. So dispite the insurance if God wants me to have this surgery- it is as good as done!

I am glad to see there are people 60 or over having the lap band done. I was afraid that I was to old. I have my insurance referral and am waiting for July 12th for the information session. Then I get an appointment with the doctor to talk about what I have to do to get the lap band. I am a little worried about having surgery but I know that if I do not do this my weight will cause me to die early from complications from being over weight. With fingers crossed it will not take long to get it done.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
