Kids Meals

Recommended Posts

I have ordered a Kid's Meal at two different places....Cracker Barrel and Ruby Tuesdays. At Cracker Barrel, they allow "Kids of all Ages" to order from their Kid's Menu, but RT told me there would be an "upcharge" for ordering off of the KM. Has anyone else had trouble with this? I hate to pay for an adult meal that I know I can't eat. I would take the leftovers home, but we usually are shopping after eating and I don't trust leaving food out that long.

I order off the kids menu also and have never had a problem. I don't think I would go back to Ruby Tuesdays if they did that.

Depending on what is on the kids meal I will order off the menu. I have never had any trouble or been charged extra. I also carry a card that says I have the lap-band and will ask to speak to the manager if there is a problem but with the card has a note and it says~ Note to restaurants: Please allow this person to order smaller portions, as they amount of food this person can eat has been greatly reduced.

If you don't have your lap-band card talk to your doctor about getting one.

My doc gave me a card that says I have had stomach surgery and to please allow me to order off the kids or senior menu.

I also have that card. The nurse that runs our local support group made sure to point it out to me. She told me that resturaunts shouldn't give you any problems with the card. :)

I have the card as well but never order off the kid's menu. None of the things offered at most restaurants are any type of healthy. chicken fingers? No thanks! I stick to ordering salads w/ chicken.

Anyone have problems with salads ie lettuce? I'm scared to try one as lots of people told me it makes them slime and my NUT said to limit them as they are mostly empty calories but I loved salads pre op and just wonderin if I will ever eat them again :(

I have heard of that card, but my doctor never mentioned it. So, I will ask him when I go back on Tuesday. I have ordered the child's grilled chicken breast with either green Beans or asparagus. My gripe is what difference does it make if I order from there? I drink Water anyways, so it isn't like I should get an upcharge for my drink!

Haven't done it yet, but I would tell them why you need to order off it. More than likely I'd just find something off the appetizers that I wanted or just eat a few bites of a normal meal and take it home.

Aren't kids meals usually lame too.. it's usually bland food like macaroni and cheese or grilled cheese, not adult food in small portions. i'd rather eat good flavorful food.

I agree. Most kids meals aren't healthy so I order a regular meal instead. I eat a small portion of it and take the rest home.

You need to stick to lettuce that has Water in it like ice burg also what I buy is the shredded lettuce it goes down much easier. It comes in a small bag so you don't have to buy a big head of lettuce and cut it up and end up wasting it. I always put some cut up lunch meat in my salad with a hard boiled egg so I can get some Protein in. All you can do is try to see if you are able to eat them. Some days I don't have any problems and others I can't get much down...HTH

Salads. I eat them couple times a week but only have Spinach, meats, egg, shredded carrots and dressing. I eat the Spinach cause I can eat it raw and it is nutritious. It's a nice lean meal. I chew and chew it though. Spinach in the bag lasts a while. I doubt I'll eat it after another fill or two. Will probably put some in a quiche at that point.

Are they taking about the high calorie extras that are added to salads or full fat salad dressings? Other than that I don't know what they mean about lettuce being empty calories. Lettuce has almost no calories. Full fat cheese, croutons sure lettuce no. Everyday for lunch I have chicken breast/low fat laughing cow cheese romain lettuce wraps. No problems.

I haven't ordered from a kid's menu because nothing has yet to appeal to me from that selection. However, several times my husband and I have ordered one dinner and asked for an extra plate to share. The sharing has worked out well because most restaurants serve portions much larger than anyone needs so it is healthier for him as well. Every place we have gone has been very accomodating to our request. One place had a $6.00 sharing charge but it was because it was known for it's very large portions.

Ditto, I just order a side salad and some ala carte meat or a Soup.....or I share a grown up plate with my six and two year old daughters. Kids meals are usually gross!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
