Do you...wing it, calorie count or 3/2 it?

Recommended Posts

During the weigh loss phase, I weighed and measured and journaled EVERYTHING....and....very happy I did. It set me up to trust my way of eating. Now that I have been in the maintenance stage, I trust my good judgement from the things I learned while weighing and measuring. Now I eat when hungry....make good/healthy food choices and don't stress about it. I do make room for treats on a daily basis and love my stress-free way of eating.

I also am a believer of every day getting adequate amounts of Protein and fueling my body every 2 hours with some kind of snack. Learning how to eat by weighing a measuring taught me how to "wing it".

I calorie count in my head always! When I slow on my weight loss, I go back to myplate.com and start tracking again. You can be surprised what you're accidentally consuming.

Sometimes I wish I had a more carefree spirit about this and would let the band just do its thing, but I am determined to be successful. Plus, even when my band is loose, I still lose, just not as fast.

I'm a winger, it's funny how we know whats better for us but applying it is usually another story. I've done the journaling thing and counting and planing, all which work but I start thinking and looking at all of it and I just start to glaze over and think What? I've been winging it since I've had this done and have done ok. I have learned for me though if I let my band tell me when I'm full, it's usually too late and I'm off to the restroom for a few rounds of relief. Inspite of the surgery I still love to eat and I'm still trying to learn when to stop. It's kinda like drinking, Oh I can handle just one more, then one more then it sneaks up on you and then you realize you should have stopped a few drinks ago but Nooooooo you just had to push it. And the old thing about throwing away food tapes that play over and over in our heads. Also I still crave at times I would like to just sit down and plow down like 6 or 7 slices of pizza just for the pleasure of it.lol. I know that will never happen in my life time I believe but the desire is still there at times. Thank God for the Gatekeeper I have on my stomach that keeps me in check.lol. It dosent care what emotional state you are in, what kind of a day you had what kind of stress you are under, It's only gonna let so much through and helps me keep my head on straight and on track. OK I'll stop for now. take care and you can still enjoy life without so much food. I've gained so much more in my life than I've lost. IFEELGREAT

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
