**Warning** TMI

Recommended Posts

So, How often do you have a bowel movement? i know this is an off color topic that most women dont talk about but honestly, I work in healthcare and I am not real shy about bodily functions.

Since surgery I am only going about every 4 days. Is that a normal time frame for a bandster? Also, TMI, Its pretty difficult to actually go. Before surgery it was pretty much on schedule every day. you know the routine....Sh*t, shower, shave, lol Now its really unpredictable, hard as a rock, and difficult.

Any suggestions?

I was going everyday but it was difficult and sometimes it was really hard. So I started eating Fiber gummies (4 a day approx) and it has REALLY helped. I don't really have problems with BMs lately. 4 days seems long. Maybe try adding fiber (or a supplement lime the gummies) to your diet? With all the focus on Protein, sometimes bandsters don't get enough fiber.

I was informed that because you're eating more Protein and smaller meals that lap banders have a tendency to have fewer bowel movements and be more prone to Constipation. Our book recommended making sure you're getting in all your Water, and as mentioned earlier, more fiber can't hurt, either.

I'm a fan of the fiber gummies too. Vitafusion brand from Target. I just eat one gummie a day and it works great.

I am so glad someone brought this up. I had surgery on Monday the 6th and today is Sunday the 12th.....I have yet to "go". I was regular before the surgery....is this normal? I am getting about 30+oz of liquid a day but still only getting about 1 Protein shake a day....split between lunch and dinner. I am just not that hungry. I called my surgeon on Friday but they are closed on Friday's. My husband said I shouldn't worry about it yet since I am not getting enough to eat to even accumulate anything.

I don't feel bloated or like I have to go...just feel pretty good. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks so much!

Christa

Christa,

I wouldnt worry about it too much especially if you were on Clear Liquids before and after surgery. I would however watch it and make sure you have one after you start eating mushies. i was about 10 days out from surgery before i had my first one after surgery. I would reccomend the fiber tho for sure! I ate Beans a lot during the mushies stages to get things moving a lil bit, you also might wanna take some colace or something if you are taking pain meds cuz the will make things a lil difficult!

Fluffy_Gurl - Thank you so much. I have been taking pain meds so I am going to add fiber and see if I get things moving.

I just made a Protein shake that was one of the receipies on My Lap-Band Journey with 1 teaspoon of real Peanut Butter....maybe too soon...I blended it really well but it's sticking after about 3 sips:( bummer. I was hungry last night (or thought I was - but really couldn't get much down) and thought I was hungry today. I have "hunger grumbles" but maybe that is not really what it is. Is that normal? If so, I guess I have to learn to tell the difference between hunger and just bubbles and grumbles.....

Thanks again!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
