Taking a peek at this as a possible option....

Hello Everyone,

My 1st post, I'm about to turn 49 and thinking more about my health. I'm 5' 10" 265lbs. (a guess, been awhile since I got on the scale). 42-44" waistline when I bought my last pair of jeans :( , borderline of going on blood pressure meds...

I enjoy hanging out with my 3 sons 10, 12, &14 yrs old, but it seems like I'm tired alot lately, I think it's all this extra weight on me....

Saw the clip on NBC news this week about the Lap Band BMI may get lowered so more qualify for the surgery, http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/ I'm not at the 40 BMI.....

Explore your options and choose which one is right for you! I would suggest that you get a physical first to ensure that your labs and such are in good order and read, read, search, search each of the WLS options so that you can make an informed decision. I took about a year exploring my options and getting my family on board with my decision. I am older than you, but want a good retirement (at least as much of it as I can control) and at 52 decided enough was enough, my joints were killing me, I was feeling tired at just thinking of doing anything close to exercise. It turned out that before I could hae my WLS I had a parathyroid problem which took care of alot of the overt feelings of pain and exhaustion that I had and then once I was cleared went onto have my band and I am not looking back! I feel good, my joints like me again and even though I still am not in love with exercising, I do it because I am getting results. I wish you the best of luck in your choices and will encourage you to go for it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
