repostion port

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I'm wondering if anyone has ever had their port moved or repositioned. I have been complaining about my port since surgery and was told that it was sore because I was just healing. Here I am 3 1/2 months out and it still bothers me. It's not real painful just mildly uncomfortable. I think he put it too high. When I'm standing, the very top part of my port is just over my ribs, right under my left breast. My ribs dig into it and if I do not sit completely upright I can feel pressure. Any real physical activity also makes it sore. I called again about it today and was told that I may have to have it moved. I'm really worried that my ribs are going to eventually make it come loose. My underwire on my bra hits the top of my port! I know there is a foreign object inside me but I never expected to be constantly reminded of it due to soreness. Am I alone in this issue???

My port is just above my natural waist so much lower than yours. Mine is really deep so I have to really push around to find it.

Over your ribs sounds too high! When you lose all your weight, won't it be sitting ON your ribs?

I feel like mine is not deep enough. I am 5 weeks post-op and still have to sit with my jeans open for it to not hurt. If you run your hand over my port site, you can feel it without pushing.

Anyone else have a port that they can feel that close to the skin? Does the discomfort from clothes go away when you are completely healed?

I just had my surgery on Wednesday and I believe my port is too high. I had someone coming to check on me today so I tried to put on a bra but the wire lies directly on top of the incision. How exactly am I suppose to handle that?

The top of the port is sitting on my ribs now. You can CLEARLY see my port....theres no doubt about where it is. Mine is not even close to my jeans. In the beginning, I joked about having a nipple tatooed on it cause it looks like a small 3rd boob! I was ONLY joking!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
